Sport Specific Information
When and where did you begin this sport? She began riding at age three and got her first pony at age four. She decided to focus on dressage at age 12. "I grew up with horses. When I was age four, my parents gave me and my twin sister [Tanja] a Shetland pony called Maxi and we learned to ride on him. For me, daily contact with the horses was normal and thanks to my childhood I moved into the equestrian competition world."
Why this sport? "Equestrian is the only Olympic sport where men and women compete against each other for medals in all the disciplines. It's only when you get a bit older that you realise just how special this is, and it's one of the many reasons why equestrian sport is so popular with women of all ages."
