Sport Specific Information
When and where did you begin this sport? He began riding at age eight. He got his first pony at age 10 and took up the sport more seriously.
Why this sport? He grew up around horses and followed his father into the sport. However, he decided to specialise in dressage rather than jumping like his father. "I was jumping a little bit when I was younger with my ponies. At first I only jumped, just for two years, but I found out very quickly that my talent was more in dressage than jumping. My father was a good jumper, but he also had to decide one day because it was no longer possible to do both at one show. You have to get more specialised. Nowadays it's impossible to do more than one at a good level, at international level. But my heart was always more with dressage. I liked the training and the way you build up a horse and maybe I did not have the best eye for distance."

"I was always working with horses because of my father, but after I finished school I studied law. I wanted to have something else, but I was always riding - in the morning I rode and in the afternoon, I studied. Then my father asked me, 'What do you want to do in the future? Do you want to continue as a rider and trainer or do you want to be a lawyer?' I decided on horses. Maybe I can be a lawyer later when I am older." He has also coached the Japan national dressage team. "I started early on, running a coaching career parallel to my own sport - also I followed in the footsteps of my father. From an early age I was used to the fact that we always had international clientele on the farm. I went to a lot of events and thus learned English relatively quickly, including the technical terms that are needed in equestrian sports. So at the age of 17, I had my first international clients. But the really great thing is the combination of active riding and training, which makes for a lot of fun and my life very varied."
