Other information STABLES In 2017 he and fellow international rider David Will set up an equestrian centre in Damme, Germany. Two years later they parted ways but Kreuzer took over the operation of the facility. In 2022 he became part of Paul Schockemohle's team. "Not much will change in my daily business in Damme. All horse owners, my students, my team - we will continue to work together, just under a different flag and on an even broader basis. I noticed that we [he and Schockemohle] have very similar ideas about the future and that we can shape this future even better together than we can each individually. I can now draw on even greater potential and even more great possibilities for everything I have imagined and planned. It's about top showjumping and everything that goes with it - from breeding, training and management to full service for customers." (worldofshowjumping.com, 11 Nov 2022, 31 May 2017; eqwo.net, 11 Nov 2022; spring-reiter.de, 18 Jul 2022; reitsport-magazin.net, 29 Dec 2021; st-georg.de, 15 May 2021; reiterzeit.de, 11 Jul 2019; andreaskreuzer.com, 01 Jan 2019; horseweb.de, 09 Sep 2018) FOCUS ON COACHING He spent time away from competing in 2021 in order to focus on coaching. He returned to competition in May 2022 at an event in Gross Viegeln, Germany, where he admitted his attention was now focused on training his students rather than pursuing his own competitive riding career. "Before I started in Gross Viegeln, I first had to look for my tournament clothes. My start was a kind of quick shot after the fact. My main rider Zascha [Zascha Nygaard Andreasen] was pregnant, so I got in the saddle at short notice. Before that I broke my hand, hadn't ridden for a long time, and then you just saw that the routine was missing. For myself, I don't really miss tournament riding. Somehow it doesn't grab me anymore. Not even at the [2021] European Championships in Riesenbeck last year, where I coached Zascha. The sport itself for me as an athlete doesn't give me that much anymore. That was a great time and I wouldn't want to exchange it for anything under any circumstances, because it's also experience that nobody can take away from me and that's helping me now. But I don't need that anymore. The other role as a coach fills me somehow more." (spring-reiter.de, 18 Jul 2022; fei.org, 17 Jun 2022) EARLY DAYS At age 18 he began an apprenticeship with Paul Schockemohle, where he stayed for four years. "I did my education to be a licensed rider [with Paul Schockemohle] for two years, and then I was employed for another two years. When I look back, that was a very important time for me with all the experience I got. I went to Schockemohle's stable and was suddenly one of many riders that rode okay, but still had very much to learn. That was a new experience for me, and in the beginning I had some problems dealing with it. But, of course it was a very important lesson to learn. It really shows that it is not just up to your riding, it is also about other things like having a good team and great horses and out of that be able to make the difference." (spring-reiter.de, 18 Jul 2022; andreaskreuzer.com, 01 Jan 2018; worldofshowjumping.com, 30 Jan 2017) OTHER ROLES In May 2021 he began serving as vice chairman of the German Showjumping Club [CDS]. Sport Specific Information
When and where did you begin this sport? He began riding horses at age three. He started competing just before his eighth birthday with his pony, Bronco.
Why this sport? His parents had a small riding school. "My parents always had horses at home, they ran a sort of pony stables for the children from the village. Pretty soon I realised it was a lot of fun. I made the decision just out of a feeling and never thought so much about it, and I think it was the right one. If I said that horses are my life, that would be a massive understatement."
