DEFENDING HIS SPORT
He feels a responsibility to change the ideas of people who believe equestrian sport can be cruel on the horse. "Equestrian is unique because it rests on the relationship between two living beings, two species, that need to understand each other to work together. The attacks on the sport come from this relationship, as some people wrongly think that it is more an exploiter to an exploited relationship, a sort of master and servant. It is our duty as riders to show how inaccurate this concept is. Equestrian sport is not cruel on the horse provided it is practised correctly." (grandprix-replay.com, 18 Nov 2019)
OTHER ACTIVITIES
In 2022 he created Eventing Grant, an association that aims to improve competition prize money for eventing riders in France. "The idea is to allow riders to earn a better living through competition earnings. In my opinion, and I think this is a view unanimously shared by other riders, the amounts on offer are much too small. Our idea is to make a call for sponsorship by companies to create a fund that can be donated to targeted events, according to ranking. When you're an eventing rider, whatever talent you have, there are two ways to supplement your income: horse trading and coaching. The problem is that when we trade in horses, by definition we are selling our work tool. And when we do coaching, these are hours that we don't spend on horseback, training. The current situation is like imagining Rafael Nadal giving tennis lessons to 12-year-old kids in schools for a living." (leberry.fr, 01 Oct 2022; francecomplet.fr, 14 Jun 2022)
AUTHOR
In 2016 his book 'Le cheval de concours complet' [The Eventing Horse] was published. "[It] is a synthesis of everything I have seen, heard and learned in all the fields of competition. My ambition is to help transform a three-year-old foal into a horse that will have developed its maximum potential for competition." (courrierdelouest.fr, 16 Nov 2016)
